Nerada Tea Room Closure

AFTER A TOUGH FEW YEARS NERADA’S TEA ROOM IS TAKING A WELL-EARNED BREAK 

• DOORS WILL CLOSE ON THE 23RD DECEMBER 2022

We have made the difficult decision to close our Malanda tea room on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. After over 20 years of pouring tea for locals and visitors to the area, doors will close on the 23rd December at 2pm. Issues including staffing, a decline in international tourism and rising supplier costs have sadly led to the tea room no longer being viable to run.  

This will not affect the 360-hectare tea estate, which delivers approximately 750 million cups of tea to the nation every year. There will be a continued focus on sustainability and quality, the plantation is already 100% pesticide free and Rainforest Alliance certified. However, plans are well underway to convert some of the tea fields including the Taraqwet tea field to organic certification. This will reinforce Nerada’s position as Australia’s highest-quality tea. Earlier this year Nerada was named as Canstar’s best rated black tea for the second year running.  

“It has been a tough few years for all businesses, but in rural areas it has been particularly hard. We’re sad to be closing our tea room and thank our staff for their hard work and dedication over the years. We also want to thank our customers for their support. We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to bring a visitor experience back to the tea estate at some point in the future.” said John Russell, Chairman of Nerada Tea.
